VMS BACKUP data transfer and tape conversion

VMS was a famously reliable enterprise-level server operating system developed by the now defunct Digital Equipmant Corporation. Its bundled data archival backup program was imaginatively (but memorably) called BACKUP, and produced savesets (with the *.BCK file extension) either to disk or to tape. VMS evolved into POSIX-compliant OpenVMS but retained the same BACKUP utility.

VMS BACKUP is probably the most robust backup format ever commercially released. It features multiple CRC fields and user-controllable XOR blocks that allow the software to recover all file data and meta-data even when a block is lost.

We convert VMS and OpenVMS Backup tapes and transfer BACKUP Saveset back-up data to virtually any other media

Whether your VMS BACKUP tapes are TZ30 / TK50, TK70, TK85, 1/2" (half inch) magnetic reel to reel, 3480, 3490E, LTO, DLT, SDLT, or some other format, we can transfer your data. We have OpenVMS servers and tape drives running 24/7 with highly trained, motivated staff to oversee OpenVMS BACKUP conversion operations.
