Backup Exec (sometimes referred to as BackupExec) is a backup package with a long history. Presently marketed by Symantec, it was acquired along with Veritas in 2005, who bought it from Seagate in 1999, who bought it along with Conner in 1996. In its present incarnation it shares the same backup format (MTF) as the Windows NT Backup applet.
